Sergenian's Commitment to Sustainability

With our carpet reclamation program, Landfill Free Guarantee and LEED Certification, Sergenian’s is a lead in sustainability.

Carpet Reclamation

Since Sergenian’s Floor Coverings started Wisconsin’s first and only comprehensive carpet reclamation program in February of 2007, we have diverted over 20.5 million pounds of carpet and padding from local landfills. Our sustainability efforts have been recognized both nationally (Mohawk Greenworks Award), as well as locally (InBusiness Magazine Sustainability Award), and we continue to pursue new sustainable initiatives. Since 2010, in coordination with UW Housing, we have recycled nearly 300,000 pounds of used dormitory carpet and padding that had been otherwise destined for landfills.

LEED Certification

Over 70 percent of all landfill waste comes from construction projects, and Sergenian’s is committed to improving this statistic by encouraging our commercial clients to join the LEED Certification program. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, allows companies to attain certification based on their use of best-in-class building strategies and practices focused on sustainability. With regards to flooring, LEED certification requires recycling old flooring materials and/or installing eco-friendly flooring, which are two things that Sergenian’s always offers.
